Additional ramp access points and eliminated traffic signals have improved flow and decreased time motorists have to spend on the road through the area. Major improvements are coming to the Interstate 4 (I-4) interchange and Lee Road interchange to greatly improve traffic flow in the area. The eastbound and westbound exit ramps will be longer and wider to increase capacity. The eastbound exit ramp now features two left turn lanes and two right turn lanes, while the westbound exit ramp will include a third right turn lane. These improvements will significantly reduce exit ramp delays, and the increased capacity will improve safety at the interchange.
Bridge improvements and a new westbound entrance ramp construction are in progress as well. Other entrance and exit ramps have been lengthened and realigned, and a new loop ramp gives southbound Kirkman Road motorists access to eastbound I-4. The project also straightened both I-4 and Kirkman Road for smoother traffic flow. Just east of the interchange, a new overpass carries Grand National Drive over I-4, giving drivers an alternative to Kirkman Road.
